Vision, mission and strategy

Vision

Gasunie is a gas infrastructure company and, as such, wants to (continue to) operate in the best possible way and guarantee a successful future. Our long-term vision provides the basis for our strategic mission.

On the basis of market developments, more gas is expected to flow through northern Europe in the years to come. The production of natural gas will decrease while demand will grow. This will result in an increase of imported gas from, for example, Norway, Russia, Africa, and the Middle East. This gas will be offered by pipeline and, increasingly, in the form of liquid natural gas (LNG).

Growing imports and the diversification of supply require investments in infrastructure. International gas transport companies will develop new connections across national borders. In this, the location, the quality, and structure of the Gasunie grid offer distinctive opportunities.

Mission

Gasunie has formulated a strategic mission that is based on anticipated developments, available infrastructure, the know-how available within the company and a healthy ambition.

Gasunie is a European gas infrastructure company. We strive for the highest standards of safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability. We serve the public interest in the markets on which we are active and work on creating value for our stakeholders.

To achieve this, Gasunie must remain a leading player in the gas infrastructure and gas transport related service industries in Europe. This will serve the interests of our national and international customers, our shareholder (the State of the Netherlands), our employees and society as a whole.

Strategy

Gasunie has the ambition and the capacity to continue to maintain its strong position in the North European market as an independent supplier of gas transport services. The acquisition of the North German transport network by Gasunie Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG ties in with this strategy. To achieve this, Gasunie imposes demands on itself. We must deliver a first class performance and continue to work efficiently in accordance with the highest standards of safety and reliability.

To meet customers’ needs and to continue to improve security of supply, we must expand the existing gas transport system. After all, the energy market has very quickly globalised. As a result, the Gasunie grid is already increasingly being used for the transfer of international gas flows. Gasunie wants to continue to be an important hub in the infrastructure of the natural gas grid in (northwest) Europe (also referred to as the ‘gas roundabout’). This will also benefit consumers in the Netherlands, due to increased competition and security of supply. Only continued expansion will ensure that there is sufficient capacity to handle increasing gas flows. Wherever necessary, we will do this in the form of international partnerships.
