Ulco Vermeulen is a member of the Executive Board and Director Participations & Business Development.
Ulco Vermeulen holds a degree in economics and started his professional career as senior policy officer at the Energy Policy and Natural Gas Departments at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs from 1984 till 1990. Ulco Vermeulen has occupied various strategic and commercial positions at Gasunie since 1990. He was responsible for the export of natural gas to Germany and for the sale of gas to the Dutch energy companies. After that, he was in charge of Gas Transport Services. Since 1 July 2005 to 1 January 2007 Vermeulen was Director Participations and Development. From 1 January 2007 to 1 October 2008 he was the Managing Director of Gate Terminal B.V., the first LNG terminal in the Netherlands. On 1 October 2008 he was appointed Managing Director Participations & Business Development.
Ulco Vermeulen plays a key role in the social debate on energy in the Netherlands. He is chairman of Green Gas Netherlands and is internationally active in the debate on sustainability, a.o. as Chairman of the Strategy Commission of the International Gas Union. Ulco is furthermore chairman of the Dutch Top Consortium for Knowledge & Innovation on Gas in which business, knowledge institutions and government work together to realize sustainable growth by involving the entire gas sector in the necessary transition and innovation.
From 1 May 2016 Ulco Vermeulen is a member of the Executive Board of Gasunie.
