Gasunie Transport Services (GTS) is the owner of the LNG plant on the Maasvlakte, which can be deployed on days when severe frost requires extra gas for domestic consumers. The tanks of this installation contain liquefied natural gas (LNG) which can be gasified at peak times, for delivery via the transmission system of GTS to the domestic consumers. Especially in the early morning hours there is a big demand for natural gas and when the daily temperatures are (expected to be) low, the Peakshaver will be put on stand-by. Especially in cold periods, it is important that everyone can continue to rely on natural gas.
The Peakshaver can store around 78 million m3 in its tanks and has a maximum production capacity of 1.3 million m3 per hour.
