Paul van Gelder appointed successor to Marcel Kramer as CEO of GasunieGroningen, the Netherlands | press release
Paul van Gelder has been appointed Chief Executive Officer at N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie as of 1 September 2010. He is the successor to Marcel Kramer, whose contract terminates at the end of August, when Kramer will have turned 60. Paul van Gelder is currently Managing Director of TAQA Europa B.V. and TAQA Energy B.V. The companies are subsidiaries of the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA).
Under Kramer’s leadership, Gasunie developed into one of the largest gas transporters in Europe, offering cross-border services to a growing number of national and international customers. Major projects are currently under construction, such as the expansion of the Dutch gas grid, the Gate LNG terminal and the Zuidwending gas storage project. In this position, Gasunie continues to make an important contribution to security of supply and to the expansion of the pivotal function of the Netherlands in European gas transport.
Paul van Gelder is currently responsible for TAQA's European operations. In the Netherlands TAQA is involved in the exploration, production and transportation of oil and natural gas. TAQA Energy also operates the Alkmaar Peak Gas Installation and is currently working with partners on the construction of a new gas storage facility near Alkmaar (Bergermeer Gas Storage). Paul van Gelder is Chairman of the Netherlands Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Association (NOGEPA). He was working as a manager for BP Nederland Energie when it was acquired by TAQA in 2006. Before his career with BP he worked as Director Logistics for Driessen Aerospace Systems in the Netherlands and in the Czech Republic. This followed a career in the Royal Netherlands Air Force and Royal Netherlands Navy where he rose to Commanding Officer after having fulfilled several operational positions both in the Netherlands and abroad.
Paul van Gelder (1969) is a graduate of the Royal Netherlands Naval Academy and has a Masters degree from the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. He is a Dutch national, is married and has three children.
Van Gelder's appointment is on the recommendation of the Supervisory Board of Gasunie and has been approved by the Minister of Finance.
