Gasunie exploring options for an LNG terminal at Eemshaven
News article
Today, the Dutch Minister for Climate and Energy Policy, Rob Jetten, announced that the Dutch government and Gasunie are jointly exploring ways to ramp up the Netherlands’ LNG import capacity in the short term. LNG imports can help reduce dependency on Russian gas. Gasunie has been in intensive talks about this with the government for some time now.
There are various options on the table. In concrete terms, Gasunie is currently looking into using a floating LNG terminal at Eemshaven, but also into expanding capacity at the existing Gate terminal at Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte industrial zone. New LNG capacity at Eemshaven and an expansion of Gate would make it possible to double the Netherlands’ LNG processing capacity from 12 to a maximum of 24 billion cubic metres. Gasunie hopes to be able to report further details of these options soon.
