Gasunie supports Kiran Badloe on his way to gold with gigantic picture
Press release
With a gigantic image of windsurfer and gold medal candidate Kiran Badloe at its head office, Gasunie is supporting the ambassador of Missie H2 and his Olympic colleagues in their hunt for success in Tokyo. The Olympic Games officially start on Friday 23 July. Gasunie is one of the participants in Missie H2, which promotes hydrogen as an important and sustainable energy carrier, around the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.
Over the next few weeks, a larger-than-life version of Kiran Badloe will adorn Gasunie's head office along the A7 motorway in Groningen. The image measures a total area of 32 by 13.6 meters. With this image Gasunie, as one of the companies behind MissieH2, not only supports Kiran, but also the other Missie H2 ambassadors: Olympic, Paralympic, World, European and Dutch Champions Marit Bouwmeester, Liesette Bruinsma, Ferry Weertman and Ilse Paulis & Marieke Keijser.
Ulco Vermeulen, member of the Gasunie Executive Board: "With Missie H2 we want to increase the awareness of the Dutch public of the sustainable possibilities of hydrogen. Hydrogen is an important and sustainable energy carrier for the future. It can therefore make a major contribution to achieving the European climate objectives for 2030 and 2050. Kiran has prepared himself with complete dedication for the Olympic Games that are about to start. Gasunie supports him and the other ambassadors of Missie H2. And in the meantime, we too are continuing with full commitment, with our eyes fixed on hydrogen and the energy transition."
Badloe: What I see happening around me stimulates me to support sustainable solutions
Windsurfer Kiran Badloe is the reigning world champion in the RS:X class, for the third year in a row, and is one of the favourites for a gold medal at the Olympics. From TeamNL, Badloe is one of the ambassadors of Missie H2: 'It is badly needed that we do something about the climate change and hydrogen can contribute to that. I visit the most beautiful places in the world and see how people treat their environment. The sea is my arena. I have to make do with the circumstances as I find them. The Maldives, for example, is the most beautiful place I have seen on earth. But it is certainly not as beautiful as it looks on Instagram. You see the pollution and climate effects everywhere. That worries me and encourages me to work on sustainable solutions like hydrogen."
Japan shows the possibilities of hydrogen
There is a clear link between hydrogen and the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Japan is already much further ahead with the integration of hydrogen into its energy system. The fact that the Olympic Village and public transport in Tokyo are powered by hydrogen is a clear result of this. In combination with examples from our own country, Missie H2 aims to further increase the awareness and acceptance of hydrogen among the wider Dutch public. Vermeulen: "Thanks to its connection with wind and water, the Netherlands is excellently positioned to become the hydrogen country of Europe. We have everything in house: the North Sea for offshore wind, seaports, knowledge, and the infrastructure."
