Energy purchasing
Gasunie is a wholesale purchaser of electricity.
We want to use as many operating hours per year of locally generated green electricity as possible in the coming years, with the ultimate goal of '24/7 Carbon Free Energy' (CFE).
Gasunie will purchase 250 GWh of green electricity annually from wind farms from energy supplier Greenchoice from 2024. Gasunie and Greenchoice have agreed on this in a five-year contract. With the supply, Gasunie links about 25% of its hourly consumption to green and locally generated electricity. In the coming years, Gasunie also wants to purchase electricity from other wind farms yet to be built. Most electricity is currently still needed for the main natural gas transmission grid. As the energy transition progresses, Gasunie will use more and more of the electricity to transport hydrogen, green gas, CO2 and heat.
