GZI Next
Project
On a site in Emmen where natural gas used to be purified, a collaboration has emerged.
This site, which has an industrial destination and is connected to the regional and national energy infrastructure, can make an important contribution to the CO2 reduction target. It contributes to accelerating the energy transition in the Emmen region, making it an example for the rest of the Netherlands. The synergy between the various energy initiatives forms the basis for GZI Next: the Energy Hub in Emmen.
Collaborating partners
Representatives of the municipality of Emmen, the province of Drenthe, Shell, GETEC services, Gasunie, EBN, Engie and New Energy Coalition work together here on the energy of the future. Shell has now realised a solar park and is working on plans to produce and use hydrogen. The hydrogen pipeline laid by Gasunie connects the GETEC PARK.EMMEN industry with future production at GZI Next and Hynetwork Services' intended nationwide hydrogen network. Green gas will also have a function in this area. ENGIE is working with partners to realise a green gas plant.
Gasunie’s role
Gasunie's contribution consists of the realisation of the hydrogen transport infrastructure. A new pipeline is constructed by Gasunie subsidiary Hynetwork Services between GETEC PARK.EMMEN and the future hydrogen plant at GZI Next.
In addition, a green gas gathering pipeline will be constructed by GTS to allow ENGIE's plant to transport the produced green gas to the GTS natural gas network.
Phasing
The first pipeline to GETEC PARK.EMMEN has been realised and is ready to transport hydrogen from the future hydrogen plant. In 2027, this hydrogen pipeline will be connected to the proposed hydrogen network Drenthe Overijssel. Look here for more information.
