Identity fraud through fake job applications
News article
Recently, there has been a higher incidence of jobseekers being approached through social media (Telegram especially) to apply for non-existent job openings at Gasunie. The offer is made by persons or organisations pretending to be, or working for, Gasunie. These fraudsters misuse the profile details of Gasunie employees, which can be found on LinkedIn. By doing so, they are committing identity fraud.
During the selection process, the fraudsters ask their victims to share their personal details (bank account number, copy of their passport, etc.) and to make payments to speed up the selection procedure. Their aim is to obtain jobseekers’ personal and banking details, which they then use to commit identity fraud again.
Should you be approached by a company or a person in relation to a job opening with Gasunie, always request the official job opening particulars. Never share your personal details such as your bank account number, a copy of your credit card or passport details.
Job openings at Gasunie can be found on the website www.werkenbijgasunie.nl. Selection procedures at Gasunie are never conducted through social media channels and you will never be asked to pay money during the selection process.
If you suspect you have been contacted in connection with fraudulent job offers or if you wish to check whether there is in fact a job opening, please contact Gasunie at info@gasunie.nl.
In the Netherlands, identity fraud can be reported via the “Centraal Meldpunt Identiteitsfraude - CMI (Identity Fraud Registration Centre)”.
