Rotterdam City Council advises on WarmtelinQ Rijswijk-Leiden
Press release
On Wednesday 6 October, the city councel of Rotterdam issued a negative advice to the municipal council about the participation of the Warmtebedrijf Rotterdam in the Rijswijk-Leiden section of the WarmtelinQ project. If the Rotterdam municipal council accepts this advice, this will have consequences in particular for the Rijswijk-Leiden section. It is up to the municipal council of Rotterdam to take a final decision on 14 October. Although this is disappointing news, Gasunie is confident that a positive investment decision can be taken at the end of October regarding the pipeline route from the port of Rotterdam to The Hague. Gasunie is continuing to work hard to achieve this. We are in close contact with our partners about this. The construction of the Rotterdam-Den Haag pipeline is an important step towards making the province of Zuid-Holland more sustainable. There is sufficient potential heat demand in the area for the 120,000 homes that can be heated with WarmtelinQ. If these are connected to residual heat, this means a saving of approximately 0.2 megaton of CO2 emissions per year.
