On Friday 5 September 2025, a major step was taken in the realisation of the Delta Rhine Corridor (DRC), an international energy infrastructure project that will facilitate the transport of hydrogen and CO2 between the Netherlands and Germany. In collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth, the public project procedure for the first part of the DRC, DRC West, was officially launched.

This phase sees the publication of the Notification of Intention / Proposal for Participation, the Memorandum on the scope and level of detail, and the Participation Plan. These documents form the basis for consultation with and participation by stakeholders, including local residents, businesses and civil society organisations.

The Delta Rhine Corridor project is divided into two separate project procedures, each with its own permit procedures and participation opportunities. One is DRC West, which focuses on hydrogen and CO2 pipelines running between Rotterdam and Boxtel, and the other is DRC East, which will see a CO2 pipeline built between Boxtel and the German border near Venlo.

With the launch of this public procedure, stakeholders can now actively contribute to the project. During this consultation period, which runs from 5 September to 16 October, stakeholders are given the opportunity to submit their comments and share local knowledge, helping to further optimise the project.

The Delta Rhine Corridor project is a joint initiative of public and private parties in the Netherlands and Germany. The corridor and the connections it will facilitate will help make industry more sustainable and keep it from moving elsewhere, and it will contribute to strengthening international cooperation and making the energy infrastructure future-proof.
